Parliamentary Finance Committee to / NINA /: The resigned Finance Minister Ali Allawi bears the responsibility for “the theft of the century” due to concealing it

Baghdad The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed the continuation of joint parliamentary meetings with the authorities concerned with investigating the crime of disbursing and stealing tax deposit funds, “theft of the century”.

Member of the Committee, Representative Mustafa Sanad, stated, in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), that “the totality of the recommendations prepared by the House of Representatives through the financial, integrity and legal committees, the heads of the blocs and the Presidency as well, are completely consistent with the reports of the Financial Supervision Bureau, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Department, which I clearly indicated the names of the accused and recorded clear violations, and these are not suspicions, but rather confirm the existence of real corruption.”

He added, “The resigned Finance Minister Ali Allawi protected himself through an official letter he issued in November of last year, in which he prevented the tax department from disbursing the money, but the tax department rebelled against his decision and he did not report it to the judicial authorities, and therefore he bears the responsibility definitely because the cover-up on the crime is a crime,” he said, noting that “the tax department informed the MPs, during the joint meeting with the parliamentary committees, of the travel of its director to Jordan, and claimed that he took a leave two weeks before the issuance of the judicial orders banning travel, under the pretext of conducting a surgical operation in the capital, Amman.”

A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed, “The meetings of the parliamentary committees are still continuing in coordination with the concerned authorities to follow up the investigations of the crime of disbursement and theft of tax deposit funds, pending judicial orders against those involved, and we trust all judicial decisions, whether it issues arrest warrants, summons orders, travel bans and others.
