Baghdad Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi met his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral and regional issues of common interest, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields, while Mikati thanked Iraq’s efforts to support Lebanon in its crisis, and to provide a helping hand to overcome the effects of the political and economic adversities, and the challenges of the global economic crisis.
The two sides, according to a statement by Al-Kadhimi’s office, stressed the importance of strengthening the policy of dialogue and calm in the face of regional crises, and giving priority to the language of understanding and positive communication in a way that establishes economic partnerships that are in the interest of the Iraqi and Lebanese peoples and the other peoples of the region.
The importance of coordinating positions and cooperating in the field of combating terrorism and confronting the rhetoric of extremism was also emphasized.
