Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for Development of Historical Mosques to Renovate Kheif Al-Huzami Mosque in Madinah

Kheif Al-Huzami Mosque at Wadi Al-Safra, affiliated with Badr governorate of Madinah region, will be one of the oldest historic mosques across the Kingdom to be developed and renovated under the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques in its second phase.

Constructed in the middle of the 11th century Hijri, the Kheif Al-Huzami mosque is situated in an area that was a famous gathering point for pilgrims and merchants’ caravans.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for Development of Historical Mosques will renovate Kheif Al-Huzami Mosque per the traditional style of Madinah.

The mosque’s area will increase from 527.94 square meters to 603.35 square meters, while its capacity will reach 180 worshipers as it used to accommodate 150 worshipers only.

The project will rebuild the mosque of Kheif Al-Huzami using natural materials of clay, stones, and wood from local trees.

The second phase of the project covered 30 historic mosques across the Kingdom’s 13 regions, including six mosques in Riyadh, five mosques in Makkah, four mosques in Madinah, three in Asir, two in each of the Eastern Region, Al-Jauf, and Jazan, and one mosque in each of the Northern Borders Region, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Najran, Hail, and Al-Qassim. This comes upon the completion of the first phase, which included the rehabilitation and restoration of 30 historical mosques in 10 regions.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques serves four strategic objectives: restoration of historical mosques for worship and prayer, restoration of the urban authenticity of historical mosques, highlighting the cultural dimension of Saudi Arabia, and enhancing the religious and cultural status of historical mosques.

The project also contributes to highlighting the cultural and civilizational extent of the Kingdom as one of the pillars of the Saudi Vision 2030 by preserving authentic urban characteristics and utilizing them to contribute to the development of modern mosque designs.
