The Minister of Water Resources discusses with a UN delegation and the Egyptian Ambassador the water file

Baghdad, The Minister of Water Resources, Aown Dhiab Abdullah, discussed with the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations in Iraq, Ghulam Muhammad Ishaq, and the resident representative of the organization, Salah Hajj Hassan, to guarantee Iraq’s water share.

During the meeting, according to a statement by the Ministry, they discussed the issue of holding the United Nations Conference on Water for the period from 22-24 March 2023 in New York, which is the first United Nations conference on water in 46 years.

Abdullah referred to the support provided by the organization and international organizations to the Ministry because the Ministry has joint projects with them.. stressing the need for special support for the water file and facing the issue seriously to ensure Iraq’s water share.

On the other hand, Minister of Water Resources, Aown Dhiab Abdullah, affirmed Iraq’s endeavor to activate and expand the scope of work of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Iraq and Egypt.

A statement by the Ministry stated: The Minister discussed, during his meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador, Walid Mohamed Ismail, the relations of joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the field of water resources to enhance and develop them and benefit from the Egyptian experience in the field of using sewage water to transform desert areas into green oases.

The Minister stressed: Iraq’s endeavor to activate and expand the scope of work of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries to exchange experiences and activate the work of joint committees between the two sides for the purpose of developing the water resources sector and facing challenges in light of the acceleration of climate changes and their effects on the countries of the world and the region.
