Iran will avenge the killing of a Revolutionary Guards colonel who was shot dead in Tehran, President Ebrahim Raisi warned on Monday. Colonel Sayyad Khodai was shot dead on Sunday outside his home by assailants on motorcycles, in a killing Iran blamed on “elements linked to the global arrogance”, its term for the United States and its allies including Israel. Secretary-General of GCC Meets with President of ICRC in Davos

Davos– Secretary-General of the the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, met here today with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

During the meeting, they tackled aspects of joint cooperation between the two bodies and ways of enhancing them to serve common goals.

The Ambitious Goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 have Contributed to Strengthening the Education System, Reports Education Minister

London, May 23, 2022, SPA– Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh delivered his country’s speech entitled: “Learning from Challenges,” at the opening session of the World Education Forum, underscoring the role of the forum in creating a global educational community that seeks to discuss the best means to jointly build a stronger, better and bolder education, and how to achieve a more sustainable future for the local societies.

Al Al-Sheikh praised the ambitious goals of his country’s Vision 2030 to strengthen the education system, prepare future generations of highly skilled and well-informed youth who embody national values and identity, qualify students to be active participants in the global community, prepare them for future jobs, and support them to achieve the full potential of human capital.

He indicated that the Ministry of Education has adopted strategic reforms that improve learning outcomes as well as the educational system’s response to future labor market needs, in addition to careful planning and evidence-based decision-making, and the development of benchmarks to identify key challenges and policy responses.

Dr. Al Al-Sheikh discussed Saudi Arabia’s experience in facing the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic that cast a shadow on education services in the entire world, adding that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was not an exception but was quick to adopt alternative plans to support the continuity of education while mitigating the potential risks of learning losses. He noted that despite these challenges, the education reforms in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the investments made by the Kingdom before the spread of the pandemic laid a solid foundation for the Ministry in responding to the crisis, which was handled as an opportunity to accelerate reform efforts.

The minister also reviewed the most prominent features of the Kingdom’s success in e-learning and distance education, noting that the Ministry of Education supported the continuity of education through a rapid transition to distance learning to mitigate the unprecedented impact of the pandemic on education, through the establishment of the “Madrasati Platform for Distance Learning”, which benefited more than 6 million students, and provided synchronous and asynchronous learning, in addition to launching 25 educational channels covering all stages of education from kindergarten to high school, as well as creating the “Rawdati Interactive Learning Platform for Young Children,” and digitizing learning contents.

GCC Secretary General Meets with Indian Minister of Commerce

Davos– Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf met here today with Indian Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the World Economic Conference, Davos, Switzerland.

During the meeting, they reviewed the GCC-Indian relations, and the importance of working to strengthen them, especially in the economic fields.

They also reviewed the developments of the joint working group and free trade negotiations.

75th World Health Assembly Kicks Off in Geneva

Geneva– The 75th World Health Assembly kicked off in Geneva today, under the theme “Health for peace, peace for health”, and it will continue until May 28, 2022. It is the first in-person Health Assembly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is participating in the works of the World Health Assembly with a delegation headed by Minister of Health Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajil.

Digital Cooperation Organization to Lead Davos Digital FDI Discussions

Riyadh– A delegation from the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) led by Secretary-General Deemah Al-Yahya will attend the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland next week to lead discussions around generating prosperity through digital FDI.

The World Economic Forum is a nonprofit organization which brings together global leaders across government and business to discuss the world’s foremost challenges and opportunities. The DCO, which focuses on digital economy initiatives supporting youth, startup entrepreneurs and women, has nine member states with a combined GDP of nearly USD2 trillion and a population of nearly 600 million. With 70 percent of future economic growth set to be digital, the DCO member states provide a valuable market opportunity to investors and entrepreneurs alike.

In Davos, the DCO will sign a major multilateral agreement on the digital economy, with further details to be revealed by the DCO and World Economic Forum at the summit. In addition, the DCO will host an event on Accelerating Digital Prosperity, bringing together some of the world’s leading players in digital investment from across the government and private sector spheres, and its Secretary-General will participate in further events on the digital economy.

Yemeni Siamese Twins “Mawaddah and Rahmah” Arrive in Riyadh

Riyadh– In implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Yemeni Siamese twins “Mawaddah and Rahmah”, arrived in Riyadh today with their parents, coming from Aden Governorate, Yemen, via a medical air-evacuation plane, with support of the Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Upon arrival, they were transferred to King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Pediatrics, at the Ministry of the National Guard, to study their case and consider subjecting them to a separation surgery.

Advisor to the Royal Court, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and Head of the Medical Team Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah extended sincere thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for this noble humanitarian initiative that comes in recognition of the difficult circumstances facing Yemen and embodies the superior medical capabilities of our country and a great humanitarian sense towards those affected in the afflicted countries, expressing his thanks to the Saudi Embassy in Yemen, and the Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, which contributed in transporting the Yemeni siamese twins.

For his part, Hudhayfa bin Abdullah Noman, the father of the twins, thanked the government and people of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the warm reception and hospitality he found since his arrival in the Kingdom, expressing his great confidence in the Saudi medical team, given their long experience in this field.

President of Somalia Receives Saudi Ambassador

Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia has received the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed bin Mohammed Saleh Al-Mawlid.

Islamic Affairs Minister Meets with Minister of Religious Affairs in Guinea-Conakry

Jeddah– Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulziz Al Al-Sheikh met in Jeddah today with Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Guinea-Conakry Karamu Gaoura and his accompanying delegation, who are currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia

During the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Al-Sheikh presented the efforts exerted by the Ministry to serve Islam and Muslims in the world and the Holy Quran in terms of printing it, spreading it and educating its teachings.

At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Al Al-Sheikh offered the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s gift of 50,000 copies of the Quran from the publications of the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran to the government and people of Guinea.
