Discussions reportedly touched on the current general situation and the latest political and field developments, in addition to legislative affairs.

Speaker Berri later received the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Middle East Airlines (MEA) Mohammed Al-Hout.

(UPDATE) MIKATI VISITS DAR AL-FATWA, MEETS MUFTI DERIAN


Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, on Monday welcomed at Dar Al-Fatwa, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, with whom he broached the current general situation.

The meeting took place in the presence of the directors of Dar Al-Fatwa’s affiliated facilities.

Speaking on emerging, Premier Mikati said that his visit to Dar Al-Fatwa today comes to extend greetings and best wishes to His Eminence and to all Muslims, in particular, and the Lebanese, in general, on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Premier Mikati said, ‘As customary every year, and at the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan, I pay a visit to Dar Al-Fatwa and extend my greetings and wishes to His Eminence and the virtuous, and to all Muslims, in particular, and the Lebanese, in general, hoping that this month will be a month of goodness, blessings, peace, well-being and peace of mind for all the Lebanese.’

Mikati added that discussions during the meeting touched on the country’s general conditions
, saying, ‘we talked about all the situations we are going through in these times.’

Regarding fears of a widespread Israeli aggression against Lebanon, Mikati said: ‘We are following up contacts with all those concerned locally and internationally to keep war away from Lebanon despite everything that our country has endured so far, especially in terms of the number of martyrs whose souls we salute. And God willing, things will not escalate further.’

In response to a question whether he expects an imminent president election, Mikati said: ‘I hope that the elections will be held as soon as possible, because the election is necessary for the proper functioning of the constitutional institutions and for the commencement of the required reform process.’

Mikati concluded by saying that electing a president marks “the beginning of hope for reform and solution in the country.”

The delegation extended an invitation to former premier Salam to attend the Association’s Ramadan Iftar.

ARMY CHIEF DISCUSSES SOUTH LEBANON SITUATION WITH UNIFIL’S LAZARO, RECEIVES AMBASSADOR OF BANGLADESH


Lebanese Army Chief, General Joseph Aoun, on Monday met at his Yarze office with UNIFIL Commander, Major General Aroldo Lazaro Sáenz.

Discussions reportedly touched on the cooperation and coordination relations between the Lebanese army and the peacekeeping force in light of the current situation in the south.

The army chief also received at his Yarzeh office, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Lebanon, Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, with whom he discussed the general situation in the country.

The death toll from Israel’s ongoing brutal aggression on Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023 has soared to 31,112 martyrs, in addition to 72,760 injured, medical sources confirmed today.

According to Palestinian news agency (WAFA), the Israeli occupation committed seven massacres against families in Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, leaving at least 67 martyred and 106 others, most of them children and women.

Many victims were still trapped under rubble and on the roads and rescuers cannot reach them, sources said.

Medical sources said that 72% of the victims are women and children, while the number of those who died due to malnutrition and starvation has risen to 25.

MIKATI BRIEFED BY PUBLIC HEALTH MINISTER ON HIS PARIS VISIT, BROACHES DEVELOPMENTS WITH GRAND SERAIL VISITORS


Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Monday met at the Grand Serail with Caretaker Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firas Abiad.

On emerging, Caretaker Minister Abiad said that he briefed Premier Mikati on the outcome of his recent Paris visit and the meetings he held with various French officials on means to support the healthcare sector in Lebanon.

Premier Mikati later received respectively at the Grand Serail MP Najat Saliba Aoun, and the Lebanese Ambassador to the Vatican, Farid Al-Khazen.

The Prime Minister also received at the Grand Serail, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Makiya, a delegation of the ‘guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.’ During the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated the members of the delegation on performing Umrah rituals.

Moreover, Mikati met with a delegation from the deans of the Social Welfare Institutions – the “Islamic Orphanage”, headed by Aref El-Yafi, who extended to him an invitation to patronize t
he Institutio’s annual iftar, which will be held on March 26 at the Beirut Waterfront Center, ‘formerly Biel.’

The Prime Minister also received a delegation from the Beirut Families Association, headed by its President Mohieddin Kashli, who extended to him an invitation to patronize the Association’s iftar, which will be held at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut on Monday, March 18th.
