Riyadh– Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital today announced embarking on a clinical study to detect retinopathy with the use of AI, in cooperation with Saudi Company for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) and Lean Company. The study was announced today during a panel discussion as part of the 2nd Global AI Summit that is being held at King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center in Riyadh.
Retinopathy is among the main causes for losing sight in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to its being connected to diabetes, where early detection of the disease is important to avoid its complications in later stages.
CEO of King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital Dr. Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Rajhi said that this step is a result of AI development among the four sides participating in the clinical study to try technology in local clinics, expecting to launch an expanded inspection program for the diseases with the use of the same technology in the near future.
For his part, CEO of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), the innovative arm of SDAIA, Dr. Majid Al-Tuwaijri said that announcing the clinical study is the latest cooperation between the health and technological sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, noting that SDAIA seeks to enhance the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s entrepreneurship in the field of data and AI in various sectors.
SCAI and Lean Company will seek to adopt and integrate this technology at health sector institutions after the success of the clinical study.
