Human Rights in Diyala: the Exacerbation of Suicide Due to the Economic, Psychological and Living Factor

The Human Rights Office in Diyala attributed the reasons for the exacerbation of suicides to economic, psychological and living factors, and the misuse of social networking sites that incite violence.

Salah Al-Majmai, Director of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that 24 suicide cases were recorded last year in various ways, such as hanging, shooting or burning, in addition to thwarting many suicide attempts that were not registered for social reasons and motives.

He added that the religious and social institutions and the competent governmental authorities have the responsibility to launch awareness and educational programs and campaigns for all segments of society and put pressure on the institutions concerned with addressing economic and living problems and containing social problems away from the manifestations of suicide, whose rates are escalating dangerously
