Baghdad National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji pledged today, Saturday, that his country’s government will not allow the activities of Kurdish groups opposed to the Iranian regime to target Iran’s security from Iraqi territory.

The Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) said that Al-Araji arrived in Tehran today, Saturday, at the head of a high-level Iraqi delegation, and met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building.

The agency quoted Al-Araji as saying during the meeting: that the Iraqi constitution does not allow the activities of people and movements that threaten neighboring countries, stressing that “any measures hostile to security against Iran will be met with the actions of the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, and that Iraq considers Iran’s security its own.”

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed the expansion of relations between Tehran and Baghdad in all fields, stressing the importance of security cooperation between Iran and Iraq, including the need to deal “with armed terrorists in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.”

He pointed out that the relations between the two countries are strategic and distinct, considering that “the security of Iraq is the security of Iran,” explaining: “Given the good relations between the Islamic Republic and the Republic of Iraq, we do not expect the territory of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to be a place for terrorist acts and threats against Iran.”

The Iranian minister called on Baghdad and the Kurdistan region of Iraq to take full responsibility in dealing with what he called “terrorist and separatist groups that threaten Iran’s security from the Kurdistan region of Iraq.”

He added, “We have always wanted a prosperous, free and independent Iraq, and we only want good for the Iraqi government and nation, but we will not tolerate the continued armed presence of terrorists in the Kurdistan Region and their actions against Iran’s security. “

The visit of National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji to Tehran came after a series of attacks carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the past weeks targeting the sites of Kurdish militants opposed to the Iranian regime and they are located in northern Iraq.
