Ahmed Aboul Gheit: The League of Arab States supports the Baghdad Water Conference


The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed: The Arab League is attending the Baghdad Water Conference, expressing our thanks to the Iraqi government and its keenness to hold the Fourth Baghdad Water Conference.

He said that we are confident of the success of the Baghdad conference in reaching solutions to address the water issue, noting that the water situation in Iraq still constitutes pressure despite the government’s efforts to implement projects.

He added that 80 % of the water in the Arab world comes from outside the Arab countries, stressing that the water issue is an existential issue linked to Arab national security.

Aboul Gheit called on the countries neighboring Iraq to increase the water share.

Iraq’s oil exports to the US increased last week


The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced on Sunday that Iraq’s oil exports to the United States had increased over the past week.

According to the EIA, Iraq’s oil exports to the United States increased by one thousand barrels per day to reach 308 thousand barrels per day, making Iraq its third largest exporter of crude oil after Canada and Brazil.

The EIA showed in a table that US imports of crude oil from nine major countries increased during the past week by 716 thousand barrels per day, reaching 5.548 million barrels per day.

The largest increases in imports came from Canada and Mexico, while they were not imported from Russia due to its position on the Ukraine war.

Drilling an oil well completed in Baghdad


The Ministry of Oil announced, today, Sunday, the completion of drilling an oil well in Baghdad.

The ministry said in a statement: ‘The technical and engineering staff of the Iraqi Drilling Company, in cooperation with Kosel Oil Services Company, completed the drilling of the EBSH-76 oil well, at a depth of 3,451 meters, using the horizontal drilling method within the contract concluded with the Chinese company EBS to drill 27 oil wells in East Baghdad South Oil Field.

It stated, ‘This well is the nineteenth well completed by the company within this project.’

Minister of Water Resources: Baghdad International Water Conference is a qualitative event and we seek common understandings for fair shares


The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, stressed the importance of the activities of the Fourth Baghdad International Conference, which began today, Wednesday, in the capital, Baghdad, with a high-level Arab and international presence and under the slogan ‘For a better water future… together we can.’

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, said in a joint press conference with his Arab minister counterparts today, Sunday in Baghdad, that ‘the Baghdad International Water Conference is a qualitative event to shed light on the financial situation in Iraq, and there will be ongoing seminars and workshops aimed at reaching important results for water resources management in Iraq.

He explained, ‘Iraq has begun to complain about the lack of water resources and has entered the water poverty line now, after previously not suffering from that. This calls us to pay serious attention to the water issue and to shed light directly on this problem, and for there to be support for Iraq from all parties, Arab co
untries and neighboring countries regarding justice in the distribution of water shares and the common interest of the countries from which river water originates.’

Regarding Turkey’s participation in the work of the Fourth Baghdad International Water Conference, the Minister of Water Resources confirmed that ‘there is cooperation with the Turkish side, which is participating within the work of the conference, as this was preceded by the important visit of President Erdogan and the Turkish government delegation concerned with the water file to Baghdad recently, and there were clear and frank negotiations with them.’ noting that ‘ Baghdad International Water Conference is a scientific and research conference in which there is no political aspect.’

The launch of the World Economic Forum activities in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.


The activities of the World Economic Forum were launched today, Sunday, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, under the slogan ‘International Cooperation, Growth, and Energy for Development’ with the participation of more than a thousand people, including heads of state, senior officials and international experts, from the governmental and private sectors, to discuss various economic issues and global developments.

The two-day meeting focuses on three main axes: international cooperation, growth and energy. It aims to find common ground between various parties to create positive global impacts, through dialogues and discussion sessions focused on enhancing international cooperation and stimulating joint efforts to create sustainable solutions.

The Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim, said in his speech during the launch of the forum’s activities that Riyadh’s hosting of the special meeting of the World Economic Forum is an extension of the partnership between the Kingdom and the foru
m, which aims to enhance the prospects for international cooperation and move towards a more sustainable and prosperous world for all.

He added that the forum pushes global efforts towards sustainable economic development, achieving developmental integration, keeping pace with economic changes and opening new horizons for cooperation and joint development between societies in light of the Kingdom’s constant endeavor to enhance international cooperation and economic growth of societies in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The Saudi Minister pointed out that Riyadh’s hosting of the global event comes from its position as a pivotal location, as the capital of one of the world’s largest economies, in addition to its strategic location that connects 3 continents, which enables it to work closely with developed and emerging markets.

For his part, President of the World Economic Forum Borghi Brende stressed that there is an urgent need not only to identify areas but also to strengthen new and influential
partnerships at a time when divisions between advanced and emerging economies are increasing.

Burgi pointed out the importance of the forum in pushing global efforts towards sustainable economic development, achieving developmental integration, keeping pace with economic changes, opening new horizons for cooperation and joint development between societies, enhancing cooperation between countries, and helping to achieve their long-term goals in the fields of trade and energy.

He stressed that this event bridges the growing gap between North and South, which has widened further on issues such as emerging economic policies, energy transition, and geopolitical shocks.

The meeting program includes a variety of pressing global issues, most notably geopolitical turmoil, especially the war in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine, and identifying and designing new types of economic growth and creating job opportunities to improve living standards globally and promote a just and sustainable energy transition.

s of the forum, Saudi Arabia is hosting a series of exhibitions and accompanying side events to highlight the latest trends and developments in a number of important topics, including sustainability, innovation, and culture.

The World Economic Forum is an annual gathering held in the winter to bring together international politicians and economists, who represent the cross-border elite, to discuss political and economic issues.

Open Forum Riyadh 2024 to discuss global challenges, opportunities


The World Economic Forum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Planning of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will host an Open Forum alongside the Forum’s Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development, scheduled to take place in Riyadh on April 28-29.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), this public event aims to foster dialogue among thought leaders and the broader public on various topics, including environmental challenges, mental health, digital currencies, artificial intelligence, the role of the arts in society, modern entrepreneurship, and smart cities. It will provide an opportunity for students, entrepreneurs, young professionals, and the general public to discuss these critical issues.

China’s central bank adds liquidity via reverse repos


China’s central bank conducted 2 billion yuan (about 281.47 million U.S. dollars) of seven-day reverse repos at an interest rate of 1.8 percent Sunday.

The move aims to keep liquidity reasonable and ample in the banking system, the People’s Bank of China said in a statement in a report by Xinhua .

A reverse repo is a process in which the central bank purchases securities from commercial banks through bidding, with an agreement to sell them back in the future.

NBR holds VAT invoice compliance workshop


The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) held a workshop on VAT invoice compliance, which aimed to raise awareness of all VAT related aspects and the necessary procedures for issuing VAT invoices.

The workshop was dedicated to assisting businesses in achieving maximum effectiveness in all VAT related aspects, including invoice compliance. With the participation of 159 VAT payers, the workshop dedicated several parts to explaining the required information to be included in both simplified and detailed VAT invoices, as well as the proper methods for record-keeping, in addition, the workshop concluded with a question-and-answer session between participants and NBR representatives, to respond to all inquiries regarding the topic.

The NBR will continue organizing workshops, and those interested may pre-register by filling out the workshop registration form through the NBR’s website at (www.nbr.gov.bh), where NBR representatives will communicate with the registrants and share relevant details regarding the upcoming
workshops.

NIHR receives US Congress delegation


Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received a delegation from the US Congress on their official visit to Bahrain.

Dr. Hooreiya Hassan, Child Rights Commissioner at the NIHR, attended the meeting.

Al Derazi highlighted the importance of the historical relations between Bahrain and the US and the importance of such visits to learn about Bahrain’s progress in the human rights sector, ensuring rights and freedom for all.

The delegation viewed a visual presentation outlining the institution’s role and its advisory responsibilities in providing human rights recommendations.

As a patron, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa today attended the opening ceremony of the first phase of the hydroponics production project and the launch of the brand of the Bahrain Agricultural Development Company. The event coincides with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Silver Jubilee.

HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman was received by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Agricultural Development Company, HE Eng Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, and a number of senior officials, at the hydroponic farm in Hoorat A’ali, where he acknowledged the significance of His Majesty’s Silver Jubilee for achieving wide-ranging successes.

His Highness noted that the expansion of agricultural development projects aligns with His Majesty the King’s directives and the government’s strategic vision to foster innovative initiatives that enhance agricultural production, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Kha
lifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

His Highness commended the important role of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of HM the King and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development, in launching initiatives that enhance capabilities and promote creativity and excellence in agricultural development.

HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman was briefed by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Agricultural Development Company, on the hydroponics project’s operations and its use of modern agricultural methods and tools.

His Highness viewed a video screening on the project and the launch of the Bahrain Agricultural Development Company’s brand, and toured the hydroponics facility, inspecting seedling beds.

HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman commended the efforts of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and the Bahrain Agricultural Development Company, as
well as the staff, expressing best wishes for their continued success.

For his part, HE Eng Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, affirmed that the launch of the project and the company’s brand aligns with His Majesty the King’s directive to enhance national food production, supported by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Minister also highlighted Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa’s role in supporting the agricultural sector.

The Minister noted the contributions of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, headed by Deputy Prime Minister HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, in overseeing various development and food security projects in the Kingdom.

The Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture stated that the first phase of the hydroponics project, focused on Hoorat A’ali and Duraz, will expand modern agricultural production methods and aims to annually produce 260 tons of agricultural goods per site, totaling 520 tons for
the Kingdom’s food stock.

The initiative includes establishing seven greenhouses, an agricultural incubator, and a collaboration with a specialised company for operations, production, and marketing from both sites.

The event was also attended by a number of senior officials.

Youth Minister attends Lamea, FinMark cooperation agreement


Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, attended an agreement signing between the national project Lamea and FinMark Communications.

The agreement aimed at organising youth programmes and boosting participation in conferences and events related to the development and growth of young people.

The agreement was signed by Shaikha Dwa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Vice Chairperson of Lamea Association and Zahraa Taher, Managing Director of FinMark Communications.

Minister Tawfiqi stressed the ministry’s keenness to foster cooperation between Lamea and other national organisations to expand youth engagement in various forums, increasing their level of expertise and upgrading their skills and capabilities.

“We are committed to building national youth capabilities and investing in their potential. Our goal is to empower young people to play a pivotal role in creating the future. This agreement is part of the efforts to achieve the Lamea Association’s goals,” she added.

The event was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.
