Baghdad, The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Tuesday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Jordanian media delegation, which is visiting Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated, “Rasheed received, in the presence of the Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Head of the Union of Arab Journalists Moayad Al-Lami,” a Jordanian media delegation that included Khaled Al-Shaqran, editor-in-chief of Al-Rai newspaper, Mustafa Ryalat, editor-in-chief of Al-Dustour newspaper, Makram Al-Tarawneh, editor-in-chief of Al-Ghad newspaper, and Fayrouz Mobaidheen, director general of the Agency. Jordan News / Petra |/, Ibrahim Al Bawared, Director General of the Radio and Television Corporation, Dana Sayag, Director General of Kingdom Satellite TV, Hussein Al Jaghbeer, Editor-in-Chief of Al Anbat Newspaper, Ali Freihat – Jordan News Agency, Amjad Salma Abdullah, Deputy Head of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate, and Abdel Wahhab Zaghilat, Head Freedoms Committee in the Union of Arab Journalists.
During the meeting, the President of the Republic affirmed the depth of fraternal relations between Iraq and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the good social bonds that bind the two brotherly peoples over the past years and periods.
Rashid pointed out that free media is an important part of societies, as it determines the negatives and positives of the government, but some media outlets do not make an effort to convey the true picture of Iraq.
He added, “Personally, I want the media to have strength and authority, as it contributes to protecting the constitution and laws by encouraging the positives and criticizing the negatives in a constructive rather than destructive way,” pointing out that the Iraqis had previously suffered from wars, and this affected their entire lives, in addition to terrorism after the removal of the dictatorial regime. Now some of its effects still remain, including the presence of nearly a million displaced people, in addition to the fact that ISIS gangs destroyed everything in the cities they controlled, and today the displaced people live in difficult conditions, calling on media professionals to take their professional role in dealing with developments on the Arab and international scene and reject the principle using the media to stoke problems and review crises without contributing to providing societal solutions that narrow any gap that may exist.
The President of the Republic affirmed that “our relations with Arab, regional and global countries are very good, indicating that all the leaders and presidents we met express their support for Iraq and their keenness to play a greater role in the region to consolidate the foundations of peace and stability.”
He continued, “Iraq is a country rich in its resources and human energies, but it is seen abroad as a war zone, and our media did not correct this trend, adding: Today you see that Baghdad is safe and stable like the rest of the provinces, and the government is serious about taking measures to reduce the militarization of society by transferring the city security file to the local police instead of the army.
The President of the Republic entrusted the media delegation with “his greetings to King Abdullah II and his wishes to the brotherly Jordanian people and the Jordanian media for further development and progress.”
