Workshop Held on Oman’s Strategic Approach in Biotechnology within Vision 2040

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation today held a preparatory workshop for a project to draft the national strategy for biotechnology within the context of Oman Vision 2040.

Specialists, experts and researchers from vital sectors took part in the workshop, held at Muscat Innovation Complex.

Dr. Kawthar Ibrahim Al Balushi, expert in research and innovation programs at the innovation complex and Chair of the National Committee for Biotechnology, underscored the significance of efforts undertaken to prepare the National Biotechnology Strategy’s draft version.

The workshop reviewed the strategic objectives of the sectors related to biotechnology and priorities of biotechnology applications in Oman.

The participants were briefed about the latest developments in national strategies around the world, in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States of America, South Korea, China, and India, with a view to establishing basics and capabilities for the strategy in Oman.

The workshop offered an opportunity to analyse the current nature of biotechnology procedures in the participants’ sectors, the needs, the challenges involved and proposals for drafting a preliminary draft of the biotechnology sector’s objectives.
