6000 hectares cultivated with cotton in Hasaka

The farmers of Hasaka province continue to cultivate their lands with cotton crop, as the cultivated area amounted to 6000 hectares up till now in different areas of agricultural stability.

Head of the Department of Plant Production of Agriculture Directorate Jalal Bilal told SANA reporter that the demand for planting of the summer strategic crop continues by farmers in various areas of agricultural stability where stable water resources are available cotton in Hasaka and Qamishli countryside.

During the last season, the area cultivated with cotton crop reached up 5910 hectares in different areas of the province.

Alouk station in Hasaka stops pumping water due to terrorist attack

Water cut off to Hasaka city and the residential complexes as a result of the repeated attacks on the high-voltage line feeding Alouk water station by the terrorists positioned in Hasaka northern countryside.

Director of Hasaka Water Company Mahmoud Ukla said that pumping water from Alouk station had stopped due to the continued terrorists’ attacks on the he electrical grid feeding it, calling for

allowing the workers’ company to enter the station to ensure continuous operation and permanent water pumping.

He added that the company continues to secure drinking water the residents, in cooperation with international organizations in Syria, by filling reservoirs with water on main streets daily, and operating 16 desalination plants in Hasaka citycenter

Tehran: Raisi’s visit to Syria on Wednesday strategic for both countries

Iran’s Government Spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi described as strategic the visit of President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria expected on Wednesday.

“The main target of the visit focuses on the economic domains,” IRNA press quoted Jahromi as saying in a press conference.

He added the two countries had a successful cooperation in different fields like security, combating terrorism and they can stand side by side during Syria reconstruction process.

Arnous, al-Ghurairy discuss strengthening bilateral relations

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous met Tuesday Iraqi Trade Minister Atheer al-Ghurairy and the accompanying delegation and discuss boosting relations in various fields.

Arnous underlined the importance of the 11th session of the joint Syrian-Iraqi committee by signing agreements and memorandums of understanding that reflect the common desire and will of the governments of the two countries to develop and strengthen brotherly ties, open new prospects for cooperation covering the areas of energy and agriculture, promote trade.

He also noted the need to encourage the business sector of the two countries to establish joint investments and companies and take advantage of industrial and agricultural investment opportunities available to both sides.

Arnous thanked the Iraqi’s government and people for the support provided to the quake-affected people which reflects the deeply- rooted historical and brotherly ties binding the two countries.

Al-Ghurairy , for his part, reiterated his country’s determination to further develop and promote bilateral relations, and enhancing cooperation between public and private sector institutions in the two countries and exchange expertise in the operation of industrial enterprises and take advantage of investment opportunities in Syria to meet the needs and requirements of the two peoples.

HM King receives new ambassadors’ credentials

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today received the credentials of four new ambassadors during a ceremony held at the Al-Sakhir Palace here.

HM King Hamad received the credentials of HE Mr. Mohammed Ali Ebrahim, of Syria, HE Mrs. Herath Mundiyanselage of Sri Lanka, HE Mr. Ni Ruchi of China, and HE Mrs. Anne Jalando-on Louis of the Philippines.

HM the King exchanged welcome statements with the new ambassadors, and hailed the strong bilateral relations and steadily-growing ties binding the Kingdom of Bahrain and their respective brotherly and friendly countries, wishing them every success in performing their diplomatic duties to enhance the kingdom’s friendship and cooperation relations with them.

The envoys conveyed to HM the King greetings and appreciation from their countries’ leaders, who wished HM King Hamad abundant health and happiness and Bahrain and its people further progress and prosperity. They also lauded the strong relations between their countries and Bahrain at all levels.

The ceremonies were attended by HM the King’s Personal Representative, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and National Security Advisor, Royal Court Minister and the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Undersecretary for Political Affairs.

The ambassadors arrived at the Al-Sakhir Palace separately, and were each welcomed by the Royal Protocols chief.

UoB President receives US embassy delegation

President of the University of Bahrain (UoB) Dr. Jawaher Shaheen Al Mudhahka stressed the university’s keenness to provide class and out-of-the-class activities to tap on the students’ creativity and professional talents and hone their skills to groom them for the labour market.

She was speaking as she received at UoB headquarters in Sakhir today a delegation from the US embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by Professor Dr. Bret Lott, the Director of the the College of Charleston’s Master’s in Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing programme.

Dr. Al Mudhahka praised cooperation with the US embassy and the College of Charleston, which has trained a host of students from UoB in creative writing since2018. She pointed out a number of pogrammes aimed at exploring the students’ talents and developing their creative capabilities.

Dr. Lott commended the students’ efforts and their commitment to developing their linguistic skills in literary arts.

The creative writing programme is co-conducted by UoB, represented by the American Studies Centre, and the College of Charleston in Virginia, the USA.

Both sides discussed academic and training issues of common interest.

Labour Minister attends Indian community’s celebration of Labour Day

As part of the kingdom’s celebration of the International Workers’ Day (Labour Day) and in tribute to all the labour force in the kingdom, the Indian Club hosted its annual celebration marking the Labour Day.

The ceremony was attended by Labour Minister Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, the Chairman of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), and the club’s President K.M Cherian.

The celebration featured artistic shows on tolerance and inter-cultural dialogue. It also presented folklore tableaux reflecting the rich Indian heritage and Culture.

The Labour Minister congratulated all workers in the Kingdom of Bahrain on the Labour Day, describing the occasion as an opportunity to pay tribute to the workforce in the kingdom for their key role in production and development.

Saudi Foreign Minister holds call with AUC Chair

Saudi Foreign Minister His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullahmade a phone call today to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The two sides discussed efforts to stop the military escalation between the conflicting parties in Sudan, put an end to the violence, and provide necessary protection to Sudanese civilians and residents on its territory, ensuring the security, stability, and well-being of Sudan and its people.

They also reviewed the latest developments and the current situation in the African continent, as well as regional and international developments and issues of common interest.

Bahrain hosts international workshop on NAP implementation

Oil and Environment Minister, Climate Affairs Special Envoy, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, has stressed the importance of sharing the responsibility for achieving climate security and keeping pace with global efforts to reduce emissions, calling for concerted international and national efforts to adapt to climate changes and build on previous achievements to ensure a better global environmental future.

Dr. Bin Daina made the statements while addressing the opening ceremony of the “National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Implementation Workshop”, hosted by the kingdom on May 2-3.

Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Electricity and Water Authority President, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, in addition to representatives of governmental and private agencies, United Nations institutions, financial and banking institutions, as well as organisations and scientific centres attended the two-day international workshop.

The minister praised the wide participation in the workshop, including more than 150 participants, experts and speakers representing more than 80 countries, who took part in the event in-person or remotely.

The workshop shed light on the exchange of knowledge, experiences and lessons gained from policy makers and workers in the field of national adaptation plans, he said, noting that it also reviewed previous successes in adaptation projects and highlighted the best practices in different regions of the world towards transformation to implement adaptation plans and the possibility of establishing partnerships among countries.

He asserted that the international workshop aims to identify the latest developments, raise ambitions and build on the global goal of adaptation before the next Conference of the Parties, to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates, in addition to highlighting climate risks in various sectors, identifying best practices to face these challenges, providing support, achieving partnerships and accelerating the pace of adaptation projects, and exchanging experiences and views on the latest technologies and procedures for adaptation projects.

Ways to increase Bahraini-Italian economic cooperation, investments discussed

Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Sameer Abdulla Nass, has stated that the Bahraini-Italian relations are progressing steadily at all levels, especially in the trade and investment fields.

He affirmed that Italy is a trustworthy strong trade and economic partner to Bahrain, noting that the volume of bilateral trade has increased by 28% in 2022.

Nass made the statements while receiving here today the Italian Ambassador to Bahrain, Paola Amadi, in the presence of the chairpersons of the Italy-Bahrain Business Council, Khalid Rashid Al-Zayani and Ignazio Moncada, in addition to several BCCI members.

BCC chief underlined Bahrain’s keenness to strengthen economic cooperation with Bahrain across various fields, stressing the need to intensify efforts to attract Italian investments to Bahrain, which would lead to increasing the volume of bilateral trade and the tourism movement.

The two sides discussed practical initiatives that could enhance trade relations and increase bilateral investments.

They also reviewed the existing commercial and investment opportunities that in tourism and other major sectors, in addition to the success of Italian companies in Bahrain and Bahraini companies and investments in Italy.

They also agreed to enhance the role of the Italian-Bahraini Business Council.

Ambassador Amadi affirmed her country’s keenness to bolster its friendship relations with Bahrain, citing the steady growth of exchanged investments and bilateral trade, noting that the Bahraini exports to Italy have risen by 124% YoY.

She also expressed her interest in developing the Bahrain-Italy relations to achieve common goals.

Medvedev, Rublev upset in Madrid; Sabalenka advances

Leading men’s seeds Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev were knocked out by fellow Russians in the fourth round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday.

Women’s second seed Aryna Sabalenka reached the last four after trailing Mayar Sherif by a set and a break. Sabalenka rallied to beat the Egyptian 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The Australian Open champion reached her fifth semifinal in seven tournaments. She won Madrid in 2021, reports AP.

The 59th-ranked Sherif was the first Egyptian to make it to the quarterfinals in a WTA 1000 event.

No. 2-seeded Medvedev lost to qualifier Aslan Karatsev 7-6 (1), 6-4. Karatsev, ranked 121, earned his first victory against a top-10 opponent since 2021.

No. 5-seeded Rublev lost to his doubles partner Karen Khachanov 7-6 (8), 6-4. Khachanov saved two set points in the tiebreaker in his first win against a top-10 opponent on clay since 2019.

Medvedev entered the match with a tour-leading 33-4 record this year. Karatsev is a former No. 14 in the world and has won three tour titles, the last in Sydney last year.

Khachanov improved his win-loss record to 19-0 after winning the first set in 2023. His next opponent will be defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or 13th-seeded Alexander Zverev, who met late Tuesday..
