Baghdad The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, met the Executive Director of the Office of Civil Capacity, Planning and Administration in the European Department for Foreign Affairs, Stefano Tomate, and his accompanying delegation.
Al-Araji’s office said in a statement, “During the meeting, cooperation relations between Iraq and the European Union were reviewed, and ways to develop them in a way that contributes to strengthening partnership, exchanging experiences and developing Iraqi capabilities, especially security and intelligence .”
Tomat indicated, “The visit comes after the formation of the Iraqi government, and it is of importance in order to discuss increasing cooperation and support provided to Iraq, stressing that the European Union is looking forward to more cooperation and partnership with Iraq, which is a commitment to support the new Iraqi government.”
For his part, Al-Araji stressed that Iraq will remain a true partner for everyone who stood by it in the war with ISIS, pointing out that the rapid changes in the world call for us to continue cooperation, and that the relationship with the European Union is serious, indicating that the Iraqi government is keen to strengthen and develop this relationship.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening Iraqi security capabilities and mobilizing the international effort against extremist ideology and terrorism, stressing that cooperation should not only be in times of war, but also continue even in times of peace.
Al-Araji told the delegation that there are no changes in Iraq’s foreign policy, but that the slogan of the government is openness to Arab and neighboring countries, and focus on the language of dialogue, solving problems through diplomatic means and openness to others, pointing out that it is important that there be dialogues between Iraq and neighboring countries, to resolve outstanding issues.
