Lanes closure announced

Works Ministry announced that the maintenance works on Wali AL Ahed Highway, at its junction with Avenue 38 at Riffa, necessitate the closure of the slow lane and two lanes will be provided in both directions.

The closure will be effective starting from August 3 at 11:00 pm to August 6 at 05:00 am.

OIC Secretary-General Receives EU’s Special Envoy to the OIC

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, received today the Special Envoy of the European Union to the OIC, Ambassador Patrick Simonnet, on the occasion of the end of his tenure.

During the meeting, they tackled prospects for cooperation between the OIC and the EU and the issue of the repeated crime of desecration and burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden and Denmark.

Furthermore, during the meeting, His Excellency stressed the importance of the content of the decision issued by the extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers held on July 31, 2023.

For his part, the EU’s Special Envoy condemned the European Union Commission for those disgraceful incidents.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing dialogue on this issue.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Anne Jalando-On Louis, at Gudaibiya Palace.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister highlighted the strength of Bahrain-Philippines relations and the importance of furthering cooperation to benefit both countries and achieve common goals.

His Royal Highness commended the contributions of the Kingdom’s Filipino community to Bahrain’s comprehensive development.

His Royal Highness wished the Ambassador success in performing her diplomatic duties.

For her part, the Ambassador of the Philippines expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to meet with His Royal Highness, noting the Philippines’ and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations.

IOM delegation visits LMRA’s Protection and Grievances Centre

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) received a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Jordan, at the Protection and Grievances Centre in Sehla to learn more about Bahrain’s experience and achievements in combatting trafficking in persons.

??During the visit, the delegation was briefed on Bahrain’s efforts in developing a stable work environment that preserves the rights of all parties and learned more about the Kingdom’s achievement of the “Tier 1” status for the sixth consecutive year in the US Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons’ (TIP) Report on the classification of countries in the field of combating trafficking in persons, which is the highest annual international classification in this field.

The delegation also learned about the Digital National Referral Mechanism (e-NRM) which is a process set up to identify, support, and follow up victims of trafficking in Bahrain.

??LMRA officials highlighted the authority’s key projects and initiatives, including the recently launched Labour Registration Programme, which aims to register workers in partnership with the private sector, as well as the Optional Insurance System for Domestic Workers and the Wages Protection System.

??They also highlighted the objectives and key roles of the Protection and Grievances Centre, the first comprehensive and specialised facility of its kind in the Middle East region that provides counselling, legal services, as well as shelter for victims and potential victims of crimes of trafficking in persons.

??The delegation was also briefed on the role of the Regional Centre of Excellence and Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons in offering a solid base of trainers who are regionally recognised in the field of combatting trafficking in persons.

London And Kiev Sign A MoU For The Reconstruction Of Ukraine

Britain and Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding according to which Britain provides support at the level of experts in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov said, according to the Ukrainian news agency “Ukrinform”: “British partners will provide their support in the process of rebuilding Ukraine.”

According to the MoU, Britain will rebuild the Kiev and Kharkiv regions and restore the transportation infrastructure, as Britain pledged to rebuild six bridges in the Kiev region, with funding from the British government.

The Ukrainian minister added: “There is a separate aspect of the negotiations on insurance against risks, as Britain has great experience in the field of insurance, and it is important for us to apply it in Ukraine now.”

The US Evacuates A Number Of Its Embassy Employees In Niger And Their Families

The US State Department announced the evacuation of a number of American employees working at its embassy in Niger, and their families.

“In light of developments in Niger and out of an abundance of caution, the department has ordered the temporary departure of non-essential US government employees and their family members from the embassy in Niamey,” said Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the ministry, in a statement, noting that the United States “remains committed to it’s relationship with the people of Niger and its democracy, and remains in diplomatic contact at the highest levels.

He added that the embassy will remain open to provide limited services and emergency services to American citizens.

On the other hand, the department warned US citizens not to travel to Niger, and placed its classification of the country as high as possible: “Level 4”.

Several European countries had begun evacuating their nationals from Niger, in light of the military coup that took place in the country last week and overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum.

Yesterday evening, Tuesday, two planes arrived in Paris and one in Rome, carrying foreign nationals who had been evacuated from Niger, in light of the fear of deteriorating conditions there.

Italy announced the arrival of about 100 people in Rome, on Wednesday, including Italians, after the authorities evacuated them for security reasons, while the European Commission confirmed, on Wednesday, the arrival of about 500 people in the French capital, Paris, on board the first two evacuation flights of foreigners from the capital of Niger, Niamey.

The Commission stated, in a statement, that more flights are being prepared, as France has allocated four planes for its nationals and other foreigners who want to leave Niger.

During the past few days, Niger witnessed violent demonstrations in support of the military coup.

GCC Secretary-General Receives Ambassadors of Thailand, Australia, and Bangladesh

Today in Riyadh, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, had separate meetings with the Ambassador of Thailand to the Kingdom, Dam Bontam, the Ambassador of Australia to the Kingdom, Mark Donovan, and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Kingdom, Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary.

The discussions during these meetings encompassed various topics, such as recent advancements in the cooperation relations between the respective sides and strategies to elevate opportunities for collaborative efforts. Additionally, there were exchanges of views on regional and international matters of mutual concern.

Syria, Iraq discuss means of boosting bilateral relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faysal Mikdad discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis al-Saadawi, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Minister of Transport, Zuhair Khuzim, ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, especially in the field of transport.

Minister Mikdad affirmed the significance of the strategic relations between both brotherly countries, which were strengthened after the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, to Damascus and his meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad.

He pointed out that the importance of upgrading the efforts exerted to reach the bilateral relations to the level that the two brotherly peoples aspire to, as well as facilitating the movement of people and goods, in away to increase the volume of intra- trade

For his part, aL-Saadawi underlined the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the Syrian and Iraqi sides at the various governmental levels.

Syrian-Iranian talks to boost cooperation in information technology

Minister of Communications and Technology, Iyad al-Khatib, held several meetings with Iranian sides working in the field of communications and information technology to discuss ways of joint cooperation between the two countries, following the outcomes of meetings between the presidents of Syria and Iran during Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to Damascus on the 3rd and 4th of last May.

Minister Al-Khatib visited the Iranian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Information Technology Organization responsible for communications infrastructure, as representatives of 17 companies operating in the telecommunications sector in Iran gave a presentation on their work in the field of information technology, cybersecurity, banking systems, cloud computing, renewable energy, and electronic applications of various types and services.

Al-Khateb also visited the electronic services center of the Iranian government carrier, and he was briefed on its work, management method, and the services it provides.

Minister of Communications stressed the importance of cooperation with the Iranian side in the field of information technology, pointing to the necessity of exchanging experiences between the two countries to achieve maximum benefit from this cooperation.

He thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for standing by Syria in various difficult circumstances that both countries went through.

Oman Hosts 52nd Meeting of Arab Communication Ministers’ Executive Office

The 52nd meeting of the Executive Office of Arab Communications Ministers Council was held today at Madinat Al Irfan, Muscat.

Hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the meeting was headed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The meeting discussed key recommendations from the 51st meeting of the Permanent Arab Committee for Communications and Information, as well as comments from the 43rd meeting of the Permanent Arab Committee for Posts and approved them in preparation for submitting to the Ministerial Committee of Arab Ministers for Communications and Information.

The meeting also looked into contributions of Arab countries to the Arabic translation section of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, in addition to issues related to Palestine and the Arab strategy for cybersecurity, among other topics.

President al-Assad addressing armed forces: You are protectors of present and future

President Bashar al-Assad, Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, has addressed the personnel of our valiant armed forces on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Army Day.

“Our valiant armed forces, greetings to you on your day as you prove year after year that you are honest, protectors of present and future and entrusted with the ancestors’ past of rich pride,”President al-Assad said.

“You are the hope of the country and an example of heroism, as your heroism and sacrifices were marked by honorable pages added to our Army’s history,” President al-Assad added.

President al-Assad noted that the army forces were and will continue giving and they are up to the challenges facing the homeland with their high awareness and great sense of responsibility.

His Excellency addressed the personnel of the army to work together to consolidate the pillars of security and stability throughout the homeland so that it can recover, and normal life returns to all parts of its lands.

President al-Assad said “since the armed forces are the guarantee of security and the pillar of stability, you have a duty to remain fully prepared and ready, each in his position and place of work in light of the grave challenges and at various levels, so that the homeland rises again with you.”

President al-Assad added “After long and hard years of war, we have the right to be proud of our steadfastness, which would not be achieved without the efforts exerted by our armed forces which are the most prominent and noble element that guarantee that steadfastness.”

President al-Assad said “As we also have the right to be proud of our victory that was has been achieved by the sacrifices of the martyrs and the bravery of the wounded, who protected and defended the homeland from terrorism and its crime.”

President al-Assad concluded that Syria deserves sacrifice, effort and giving from its people to be always in a position that represents its history and pivotal role, so Let us always keep love of our homeland in mind, belonging to it, loyalty to its martyrs and wounded, and defending its rights.
